    I thought that myself but now iv had a go it wasnt as bad as i thought. I definitely improved my drawing out skills under the hammer. The billet from cutting plate to grinding it flat was about 20hrs or so,or 3 very lazy talkative working days lol

    If you shape the knife and drill your pin/bolt holes, you can screw the knife down and dispense with the clamps if they are getting in your way.
    Nice simple jig.

    If you've no grinder you're looking at hand sanding after HT.
    I'd suggest going close to what you want and dealing with any warp later.
    If you are heat treating yourself then go down to 1mm and straighten while the blades still warm after the quench.…
