Thanks @Da Main Mouse, will speak to a supplier. Also, seems you can eat off galvanising with a long vinegar soak if needed

Its difficult getting stuff that isn't galvanized. The galvanized stuff is very bad for the lungs, so well worth steering clear of.

Does anyone know how/where I could get some carbon steel cable (ie. not stainless) of about an inch thick and lengths of at least 10 inch/250mm or so? Preferably reclaimed/rusty, as I have a feeling forging it may lead to some binned attempts and I…

Thanks, yes it is annoying that we have to do something otherwise others will get their way. However, it might help to remember what the goal is?

For me it means carrying on what I love doing, I will not be able to make the last 8 folders, which are…

+1 for Brisa. Once noticed an irregularity in some RWL34, got to speak to their manager who put me straight in touch with the manufacturer, all ready to replace it... Then we realised it was an area of melting😊, all my own fault! Pre-electronic…

Congrats on getting that far ! So many people want to make a knife , so few actually have a go and even fewer bother to show it , so have a beer I say !

Thanks man. I've been meaning to do this for like, two years now but somehow never got around to it. It was your thread about cheap upgrades to your 1x30 that made me do it in the end so thanks for that! :P Looking forward to getting some more done…

Forged from a big old truck leaf spring.
190mm blade, 8mm thick at the spine, slight convex grind and a heavy convex secondary but still sharp enough to shave :)

Thanks Fraser the patina I was pretty happy with and was actually really easy, I done exactly the same with the necker I kept with similar results, I like the randomness of the etch.
