Hi all I've nearly finished my second folding knife, shall I engrave a dragons eye on the bolster or leave it plain? I need to do some extra polishing where there are some scratches and also sort out some porosity in the join between bolster and frame,…

It looks great! I have polished and then ground the bevel up to a fine belt with a final hand polish (metal polish) to maintain the grind line. Also, depending on the steel it is more work but not as much as you'd think doing it by hand on a flat…

Yes, thanks I had sturdiness in mind. Sorry for the delay, I'll find the speed, I worked it out somewhere... Blademaster otherwise I'll pop a vid on the thread

Most of the press/frame itself is now assembled and the block is nicely snug. All the pressure areas get an additional 12mm plate under the contact fittings/dies which will be another 10-12mm thickness there at least. The bottom frame plate will be…

Now that the main frame and connecting sections are reinforced and welded I can re-fit the travelling block/die. I wanted to make it as square as possible and as tightly fitting as I can get it, bearing in mind the I beam is not a precision piece of…

Now some work on the travelling block, it is made from a section of I beam reinforced in the web with 10mm plate. As this is not welded to the main support frame I thought to give it 2 extra webs, prob overkill. So what follows is a .lot. of arc welding…

Additional steel was £180, 150x12x6000 and 140x10x6000mm, cheaper in 6m lengths from stockholder than 1m off suppliers. Most of the cuts done.

I got the hydraulic pack for £1k new, 3kW three phase motor, 700bar system, ram is double acting 30T for £250, hoses, valves and couplings incl., you can build this likely for much less but I didn't want to spend too much time on that as well as…

Here we go with some updates if you are interested. I am planning to build a hydraulic press and it has taken a very long time to crystalise the design, specs and of course keeping everything in budget.

Here is the RSJ that has been lying around for a…

I really wanted a Barlow so had a go at making one, first time making a knife in a particular pattern. Blade O1 at just under 3" & 7" overall, 4" closed.

The liners & bolsters are all one piece of wrought iron that I've etched to try & bring out some…

As the title says, this is a bit of a mix up of styles. My main inspirations were Robert Parrish (handle), Randall (blade/sheath) and Lile (guard and cap)

    8" 0-1 blade, .200" thick with 10" hollow grind.

    304 stainless handle and guard.

    Aluminium cap.…

Overall length 230mm, steel is 12c27 and the scales are stabilized maple burl. They look a lot better in the flesh, so to speak.
    Thanks for looking.
