Well I was thinking of saving for an even heat when I posted a question about temp readings etc and got some good nods in the right direction...

Today I was able to heat treat two blades in 80CRV2 well within the 840-880 degree range for the 5-10…

+1 for what Jim says, this works a treat.

I use mold release wax instead of vaseline as it dries and once dry will not smear into places it is not wanted. I imagine furniture polish (not the spray on stuff) or renwax might do the job just as well.

This'll be the last from me for a while as I've got to get stuck in to some medieval/Saxon stuff, axes, helmets and possibly a few seax's. Anyway, this is 1095 with hamon, sambar and brass with a very secure flapped sheath. The blade is approx 105, the…

now the boring bit , load up your spools , pop them on , add a wing nut if you want (if it's going to be stored away this will stop the spools falling off ) if it's wall mounted they really aren't needed .

I've added a Perspex front to mine , drilled a…

Lovely work, this oozes character. It sounds that you used your arm power to reduce her thickness and not a power hammer. If so my hat is off to you pezza because I know how hard that is. Great job buddy I love it.

It did take a lot of beating with the six pounder, arm was a little tight by the end!

I normally go to 320 or 400 on the grinder with belts vertically, then horizontal with 180 by hand untill all initial grind lines are gone and keep sanding in the same direction till 600 -800 to get the desired finish.
