Hey bud, do you still have the ladybug for sale?

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
Trust you had a good trip with lots of sweeties and board games..
    M

  • Mr Doyle -

Scrap that. Looks like I would have real problems drilling the Elmax. Gone for a Scandi in stainless.
    Leave it with me..

  • Mr Doyle -

    Dearest Greg,
How very nice to see you today.
I thought for the second knife (shall we call it the Demmy) I will get the flat ground one as its the closest to the Flandi (rather than the scandi). Hope thats ok, I think it will be great..
    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

I shall be around Thursday afternoon if you have the time.
    M

  • Average Joe -

Super, I'll give you a ring when I know what time I can get free. Have a good weekend.

  • Mr Doyle -

    Absolutely.
Next week is good and we can hopefully make some decisions.
I should point out that the original glowy stuff (which I prefer) may not be long enough (4") as I used a piece for the prototype. If we go with this one, will need some more.
Despite what I said about the CF looking like a tile, it will look very nice indeed...
    M

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
That there carbon fiber arrived today. Looks like an expensive tile...
There should be just enough thickness.
Blades are at the heat treats..
    Speak to you soon,

    M

    • Average Joe -

Oo, I feel a suden moistness to my loin! :D

That was a bit quick. I just waited two weeks for a bulb for my bike to come. 23 hours from the U.S. to the uk, then two weeks fom where ever it landed in the uk to a local depot for me to collect! Nice.

Any chance I can pop over next week for a natter and a gloat?

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
    Good seeing you today.
I have been thinking about that Allen Elishewitz, I think I love it...
    Will be in touch soon.
    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

Sorry to hear about Dem (don't think you mean shes expecting, if so happy days).
I am around all week. Got the builders in doing a kitchen..
    M

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
    Hope your well.
Have a left handed sheath and some bits to show you..
    M

    • Average Joe -

Sorry I meant to ring ya! Dem up the spout again so a bit pre occupied.

I should be able to pop by some time this week, I'll give you a shout tommorrow durinf the day if that's OK?

Hope the trip went well? ;)

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
Hope you have had a super weekend.
A couple of updates for you..
I knocked together a hidden tang bushy type with micarta and placed a slither of that glowy stuff in the handle like a spacer. I have a feeling that the 'sides' of the sheet don't glow as well as the flat surface. But I am taking it on my trip and will let you know how it performs. As the knife needed a sheath I knocked one up and also done a nice heavy left hander for the flandi. I even put a fire steel holder on it as I just matched the one I was making..
I am off on Tuesday and will be back the following Wednesday..
    Chin, Chin,
    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

    G,
Thank you for your hankey advice.
Not sure how long Duncan will take, but we have plenty of time to get this just right..
I am away next week but around after that so another meet would be super.

  • Mr Doyle -

    Dearest Greg,
Good to see you as always.
I have been doing a little research in regards to that there Carbon Fiber Lighting stuff and it appears that a fair few folk have had issues with the metal bits sticking out, falling out and becoming a bit 'prickly' with use. Apparently it can be the most leathal substance to sand as you have carbon fiber and metal particles floating up your nose, but I have used worse.. However, this is from makers and not people that have bought which seem to be fine. Still happy to use it, just thought I would give you heads up. I did find another place in the States that does the same stuff as the one you brought yesteday which I rather like.
Will keep you posted on this.

    • Average Joe -

Ya, cf is orrible to work. Ann (old flame who worked cf daily) advised treat as aspestos, ie good quality resporator, no skin contact and using water when cutting/drilling/sanding to keep the dust from going airborn. The last trick with the water helps to stop the workshop getting covered in 'soot'.

The wire splinter thing is true with the usual bronze lscf but it settles down fairly quickly. I'd expect the same with the silver/aluminium version. I made a lscf key fob Foa a mate some time ago. After sanding, I rubbed over it with a hankercheif. The splinters lodged in this and raised, so I could remove them and resand it smoothe. I read about that trick somewhere and it worked well but I had to repeat the process a few times. In the end, I was left with a nice speckled, spakly finish. I totaly understand if you dont fancy it but examples on line look super and very different, hence my interest.

I'd love to give it a try if we can sourse it thick enough but if not, the 3k cf will be fine. I'm chasing the green gitd Kirinite today as it should have arived by now. I'll be about again next Tuesday if you are accepting visitors?

  • Mr Doyle -

    Greg,
    A good morning to you.
I am having Duncan Chandler (Fgyt) making me up one 4" and one 5" Flandi gound blades in 7mm RWL stainless. The 5" will be availible to you should you want it, but you are not commited to this, would be making it anyway. I will not be doing a tapered tang as I want more weight in the handle. With this in mind I doubt it will need a bolster, especially not with that blade thickness. I did put together a beater the other day with black canvas micarta (may post here) which looks great and may go for that over carbon fiber as I am having trouble finding some good stuff.
Anyway, all this will most probably take a long time so will get back to you with it.
    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
Good to see you today. I always enjoy a knifey chat and of course the odd purchase..
I have liaised with Duncan and he can do a couple of Flandi grinds, if I get the steel (which I can). I am thinking 7mm for these bad boys. But don't worry your not commited to anything.
Will let you know as I need to speak to my steel guy..
    Be well,

    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
As you will know I am back from the US. Unfortunately I was unable to obtain anything on your list of goodies. Maybe next time just order it on the web and I will give you an American address you can sent stuff to, then I will just bring it back..
Anyhow, would of got in touch sooner but our youngest dog passed away while we were gone which was a bit of a stink. Around most of next week (apart from Thursday) if you fancy a brew and knifey chat..

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hi Greg,
Hope you are fine and dandy.
Going to the States at the weekend and may be able to pick something up for you if you like..
    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

    Wednesday works.
    Just give me a call..
    M

  • Mr Doyle -

    Greg,
Great to see you and yours.
Mrs Average was brilliant and I have decided that next year she simply must spend the day and be paid in treasures..
Its great when people like the work and spread the joy around.. Cannot thank you both enough.
Looks like I will be going to Fluffys on Sat so will bring a small box and maybe one of the dogs..
I have found some materials I had forgotten about (including a lump of Mammoth!) so will have the workshop a little while longer. If you bring the knife I will put a sharp bit on the back of the blade or if you are around this week I can do it (will take about five seconds) and we can go for lunch..
    Speak to you soon

    • Average Joe -

I'd love to pop over some time this week. Possibly get a few hours on Wednesday if tommorrow goes well. Can I give you a ring tommorrow evening?

  • Mr Doyle -

    Morning Greg,
Trust you are getting on with the Dama Bushy.. I rather miss that one..
I see you might be attending Fluffy's swaray on the 4th. I am supposed to be in Scotland that weekend, but it may fall through. I f so I will go and bring some more goodies.
Hopefully see you at the show next week.
    M

  • Mr Doyle -

    Hey Greg,
Good to see you yesterday. always like a knifey chat..
Thank you for the cash, sorry I did not take you up on the Spyderco offers.
Enjoy the knife and use it well. I am sure you will.
    Speak you you soon,

    Marcus

  • Mr Doyle -

Yes I am around. Have the decorators in so around all week...

  • Mr Doyle -

It will be nice to see you at the show. But in the meantime if you are in the area, let me know and we can have a brew..

    • Average Joe -

That would be loverly. I was up yer way a few weeks ago and thought about ringing. Then I wasn't sure if you had gone to the US and, well, you know, I didn't bother. And i really should have!

I'm stuffed with work for a few weeks but will definitely give you a ring. It's probably going to be short notice but fingers crossed we can get together and have a few giggles. ;)

    • Average Joe -

I'd love to pop over this week. I may get a few hours free on Wednesday if tommorrow goes well, can I give you a ring tommorrow evening?
