Get yourself a starter set of carving chisels and a detail knife first. This set looks good http://www.toolsandtimber.co.u…-piece-palm-set-nar868300 or this one http://www.workshopheaven.com/…g-Chisel-Set.html#SID=553
And this detail knife is pretty handy http://www.toolsandtimber.co.u…rmesser-kerb-14-pfkerb-14 a Mora 120 or 106 would be good as well. Also a coping saw for fast removal of stock. Then buy a few sizes of lime wood which is the best for starting and simply practise and see how each chisel sweep works and how to work with the grain
If you have a project in mind draw it to scale from all sides if possible. If you can copy the picture onto the wood for reference all the better. It is very difficult to think in 3d so this kind of guide to show you where everything sits will help youto stay on track. Try not to be too ambitious to start. And most importantly keep your tools sharp. You need to feel good about the work so starting simple and using keen tools will help you alot. Hope this helps
Wow just wow.
Thank you for the detail.
Im deffo gonna try
