  • I had a Seax sent from Juttle today so I thought I'd give it a quick run out at the woodpile. I've been tempted by this type of knife in the past but the price has put me off TBH. At £80 this is certainly not the case. If you can persuade him to make you one do so. This will be my new default belt dining knife at meetups. on to the test: I had problems thinking about what best to compare this with so did the pin-in-the-phonebook trick (for you younger member a phone book was a paper collection o…

depends is a reliable answer. As xellos99 says kitchen knives with wooden handles go decades where nothing more than fairy liquid and hot water as their treatment. As for my collection of outdoor knives, most are younger than 10 years - no worries. A couple that are over 50 years old seem fine.

  • xellos99 kindly sent 5 01 blanks to my nephew as he'd said in this thread: Knife designs needed that with his new stock of 154cm he felt 01 wasn't worth the heat treat - and kicked up a bit of a storm. we chatted and he sent these on. Young nephew had a bash at treat and made this from the first edgematters.uk/attachment/3204…58e71710abbd271493d5f87fb Yes there is much to improve on but he spent some time online reading up on heat treatments and the idea is to learn. • a couple of big bowies sound like a plan

  • when you're dead you aren't making more. Unfinished is clearly the work of a named individual rather than something "spoiled" by the input of others... Don't ask me, I like knives I can use but I can see the idea of keeping a few in their original state while using others

  • I don't understand how threads go this way TBH. All of a sudden people are sniping. I took the OP at face value: no idea what to do next, anyone fancy anything? People can say things in forums they would only say to your face with a big grin. In this case I think it's a great idea asking people their advice on new designs. I had a similar response on British blades when I asked people to design my next Shing for me as his extensive list of options was rather swamping. IIRC an admin jumped in and…

  • I think one reason people post across a narrow spectrum is a mix of interest, knowledge, time and newness of the forum itself. Meh, that's four reasons. Despite the structure of the forum layout there is a dearth of actual thread and little in the way of thread history so necro threading is difficult. Some people can talk about anything but, knowing they have little of value to offer they keep quite. Others can say a great deal of value but are busy making or keeping up with threads on several f…
