Welcome to the forum Doug , looking forward to your contributions

  • It's cheaper to coat it than grind it to an acceptable finish , very much like bead / sand blasting .

  • Looks like it's holding up well against the savagery that is cheese patina @DARJAC666

  • My SnG in PD1 is just awesome , especially now it's at an almost zero grind , I'd love to get hold of some of that for a play around

  • I think it's helpful to know who has produced the chart @xellos99 , to me that has a bearing on how much attention I pay to them .

  • Quote from Paul W: “ Are you enjoying this steel on your PITS? ” very much so Paul , I've owned a few productions in Elmax over the years but this is now the only one (I think ) but yes , it cuts very well and holds it even better , not sure how it'd be under rough & tumble useage but I'll cross that bridge at some point , it's turning into one of my main go to pieces by a long stretch .

  • @Platinum This ticks alot of boxes edgematters.uk/attachment/3061…597f8b667776eb4079546a10f

  • I have three big slabs of Elmax I'm very much looking forward to getting stuck into at some point

  • Loving Niolox currently , it's a complete biatch to grind but the edge holding is really impressing me so far .

You could try a bong type set up , drawing the dust through the water before hitting the extractor .

    Jimmypie - - Tools & Equipment

    Post

For me it's simple , I don't use the extractor when grinding steel / titanium , only the wet catch bucket , Seeing lumps of steel wool still smouldering after an hour is enough to know I don't want that going where I can't see it.

  • Lovely lovely collection Joel !

  • @bonzodog have fun , if time permits I'll be performing the first cut of the year myself later edgematters.uk/attachment/3057…597f8b667776eb4079546a10f

This has worked for me for a while Simples edgematters.uk/attachment/3056…597f8b667776eb4079546a10f The other option if you don't have somewhere to clamp or fix it down would be glue it onto a big heavy chopping board or piece of granite .

@Doubletap Heres details of a guy who makes very nice strops , using nice hardwoods and premium leathers , if it's something for in the house / kitchen then maybe it'll keep the missus sweet too , you could clamp the handle to a worktop using a quick clamp , I think they run about £25 but don't quote me instagram.com/practical_being

Quote from Paul W: “Have you had much chance to form an opinion re the Niolox steel Jim? ” These knives are now getting thrashed everyday by myself and the wife ...especially the Orange , that seems to be the go to knife of choice , we have three scratch made meals a day in this house , fruit & veg , just My opinion .. The edge holding on the Niolox for these duties far surpasses the RWL-34 , the orange ones edge hasn't been touched since I made it and with a gentle saw to start it off it still …
