  • Good evening.

    DARJAC666 - - New Members' Introductions

    Post

Hello Doug. I've still got one of your Bush craft knives somewhere . Welcome to EM. Darren

  • Gents. You've got nearly £60 to play with on shipping with this one.. heinnie.com/blackhawk-uk-sfk = £219.95 amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-Blackhawk-UK-SPF-Dagger/dp/B0045YMZKU = £159 shipped including all duty, VAT & handling. Despite what the Amazon no-ship says, if you ask Blackhawk, they will ship items to U.K. on spec. Again, you pay your money & you takes your choice. Excellent service with HH is guaranteed but it comes with a 40% premium & it's not a Spyderco. However, the importer & distributor i…

  • I hate charts...("Top of the Pops " was all about charts. How many No1's were actually the best ?) I worship science. I respect testing. I like specs & formulas but.. When it comes to blades, I value consistent heat treat above all else.

  • Quote from Jimmypie: “Looks like it's holding up well against the savagery that is cheese patina @DARJAC666 ” The irony of this knife is that that it's edges were so dull in places that it couldn't cut cheese ! I knew this.. I deburred the edges & a bit of a light reprofile in one area & it's now reasonably sharp that it shaves hair, but doesn't whittle hair. I'm going to try some "Red Leicester" to see if I can get some Patina..... Quote from Platinum: “That's cool Really hope they bring out a …

  • I've sold most of my fixed blades or given them to family....yet, this one spoke to me a couple of weeks back at a primordial level I don't fully understand. Double edge fixed blades are a single use tool. In this instance, my KABAR EK-44 Mod 4 makes a wonderful tactile cheese knife... edgematters.uk/attachment/3063…e5bc71c245f56940169adaa6a[scallout][/scallout]

  • Cracked Spydie blade

    DARJAC666 - - Knifey Chatter

    Post

The crack looks like it's on a stress raised area where the sharp machining of the jimping has followed a transverse ridge down the blade & arced across. I've seen all sorts of stress cracks appear in steel & aluminium on track cars that are most interesting in the path & location. I'd send the blade or use VAT & duty exemption papers to export the knife correctly so it does not accrue charges etc....description to reimport to U.K. "Folding locking penknife" A consideration is that if the blade …

  • Quote from The Lord Flashheart: “Thanks Max, things have moved on somewhat and I am now thinking of hiring a campervan. ” Tell everyone where you are hiring the camper from ?

  • Pocket clip on EDC or not

    DARJAC666 - - Knifey Chatter

    Post

I've been carrying a PITS (no pocket clip option) in a leather slip to stop the lint & crap my pockets invariably accrue getting in everywhere...It's a PITA to remove & replace. However , once in the hand, it's ergonomically & aesthetically superior. Pros & cons Pocket clips that do not function as intended....a mild annoyance. Some knife types absolutely must have pocket clips for function or safety. Anything with an Emerson wave or variations on a theme...that's a lot more knives than realised…

  • At Lamnia a PM3 is £139 with free post (100 Euros & over) minus EM subscription discount. Seems to me that Lamnia are very competitive on medium to high cost items & whilst they may also be seeing increases, they waited until new stock was in before implementing...

  • @xellos99 We are trying to expand meet ups so theres more opportunities for enthusiasts & makers across the country & encourage members in other regions to travel & reciprocate the social aspect...

  • Some are camping there mate. Otherwise, ping @XamaX a message for accoms south of Exeter.

  • A timeline of sorts ...

  • @Geedubya Is that a pet pig ?

  • @keen-magpie Hello Tom FedEx have delivered all my parcels to & from USA, doorstep to doorstep. No issues all the way up to March 2017. Putting up existing stock by 40-60% is an in-house magic trick not requiring couriers I suspect !

  • Welcome to EM. A midlander living in the Northwest..now there's something you don't see happening every day... It was bad enough when the Stokies decided to visit Crewe for a bit of "living dangerously" nightlife ! There's quite a lot of active discussion re Spydercos & pricing in the U.K. at the moment. Have a read up of you get the chance.

  • Shing Recurve

    DARJAC666 - - Looking for...

    Post

Suggest approaching the maker @Shing He will be able to help you & it will be what you want. The difference between new & previously owned is likely negligible.

  • No issues. The folding knives will just get made elsewhere in the UK by someone who actually gives a damn. Problem solved.

  • Shing makes increasingly desirable knives that are well made, stylish & easier to open than several years back whilst maintaining EDC useability. Shing used to be known as the pioneer of the DPOS. Dual Person Opening System... This is no longer the case. Very manageable & comfortable for most anyone. He also helps & contributes to EM with posts & articles.. Like the other UK Makers, he's a top bloke.

  • Quote from richp: “There's been talk on this forum before about EM "representing" sensible knife ownership in the U.K. I think there are 1300+ members here, presumably at least half are potential customers of HH, indirectly of EB; we must be a sizeable lobbying block. Is it worth writing to EB (maybe HH too) to ask about the increases? I'm not suggesting collective action, that will likely come on its own (as people stop buying the knives), but as a group we should be a loud enough voice to warr…

  • @pieinthesky Mike I worked on my own increase in parts costs encountered to support my business plus an increase in January every year that blights the Automotive industry & came up with 23% since July 2016. I can't get close to the increase that Edgar Brothers / Heinnie Haynes expect the UK to support. The apparent disproportionate increase in existing stock items is sharp business practice at best !

  • I like the theme.. The poor light is not emphasising the work in that stacked handle & doing it full justice imho That primary satin hollow grind...it looks perfect from the pics. I suspect that some better natural daylight pics will set the whole knife off...again imho

  • Quote from Ken1978: “Quote from DARJAC666: “Why do you need to check ? Aren't you American & based in the USA ? ” check local and ask from my friends:)) ” @Ken1978 Perhaps you can get get your friends @JackWorld & @Jayronife to help you find out your "local laws in upstate NewYork ? However, they are based in Ireland & London but share the same Ukranian IP address as you ? Perhaps you can explain why you have started multiple memberships this year beginning in January with @Jayronife posting pic…

  • Quote from Jimmypie: “Could of been much worse @DARJAC666 , (Hidden Content) ” Possibly the most hilarious summing up of the year thus far & a contender for best post !

  • Note to self.... (Hidden Content)

  • I'm sure all will be resolved one way or the other by 5pm.

  • Quote from Ken1978: “Quote from DARJAC666: “Why do you need to check ? Aren't you American & based in the USA ? ” check local and ask from my friends:)) ” Ken I'm confused so please help me out here. How is it that a US based person from New York State where the most extreme & contradictory laws on firearms & knives exist that you don't appear to know your own State & local laws in this area ?

  • With the knives mentioned, do you have access to a local Walmart ?

  • @Ken1978 Is that NY city or State ? Makes a big difference to what you can carry doesn't it ?

  • @Ken1978 Where abouts in the USA are you from ?

  • Hello Ben Welcome & best of luck with the making.
